Marian Anderson has life jackets on site a big plus. Regulars appreciate that this pool has designated areas for swimmers based on age and ability, which helps keep everyone safe while allowing older and stronger swimmers to enjoy some time away from the noise and splashing of little ones. Marian Anderson Recreation Center Pool –– Point Breeze This four-acre site also has basketball, tennis, hockey, and volleyball courts, in addition to sports fields. Barry Playground Pool –– Girard EstatesĪdjacent to Barry Playground, Barry Pool offers open swim and family swim for at least one session a day, and free lessons every weekday. The center itself is on an 8.4-acre park that's home to ball fields, handball, tennis and basketball courts. Kingsessing Pool has lounge chairs, umbrellas, and privacy screening from the street. Kingsessing Recreation Center Pool –– Kingessingĭuring the summer of 2023, the Kinsessing Rec Center pool will be closed for renovation. The Kingsessing Rec Center pool is one of the larger ones in the city, and locals report a real family feel among those who frequent these waters. If you can’t find enough to do on James Finnegan’s 17.7-acre grounds, make a day of it by stopping by Bartram’s Garden or FDR Park. A sprinkler provides additional water play. South Philadelphians love swimming at this large community pool right across from the playground. Best Free Swimming Pools in South Philly James Finnegan Playground Pool –– Paschall The Summit on the Park Aquatic Center is expected to re-open in late December 2023.The James Finnegan Playground Pool is a popular South Philly summer destination. Members are asked to contact the Summit front desk, if they wish to elect any of these options. This would provide Summit members with a temporary “facility admittance pass” for alternate use of these aquatic centers during open swim and lap swim times. In addition, the Summit is looking to provide members access to a few aquatic facilities in surrounding communities while the Summit Aquatic Center is closed for renovations. To minimize the effect of the Aquatic Center closure, all Summit on the Park members will have the opportunity to ‘freeze’ or temporarily pause their memberships for the duration of construction and forego access to the facility. In addition, access to one family/special accommodations locker room will remain available at all times during construction. During the short-term closure, additional Land Fitness classes will be made available to Summit members to supplement fitness opportunities within the facility. Further enhancements include the addition of a water feature, replacement of the Marcite plaster in the Lazy River, as well as painting of the pool deck roof.Īffected programs and amenities will include: swim lessons, lap swim, water fitness classes, as well as sauna and steam room access. In addition, tile will also be replaced in the spa and sauna, as well as in the men’s, women’s, and family locker rooms. This $2.4 million construction project, which is expected to be completed mid-December 2023, will include tile replacement in all pools, including the lap pool and family pool, as well as on the pool decks.
